Frequently Asked Questions
The right system depends on your property type (single-family home, apartment building, office, or gated community). Options include:
Audio-only intercoms
Video intercom systems
IP-enabled smart intercoms
Cellular-based intercom systems
Traditional POTS (telephone line) callboxes
A site assessment usually determines the best solution. We will discuss your primary objectives, as well as examine your existing infrastructure to see what type of system it can support.
How will you unlock the door? Using an indoor monitor, remotely via a mobile app, using a remote control, or manually?
Do you want to view visitors or just speak with them via an audio-only intercom system?
Do you need keyless entry for staff, residents, and couriers? Will you utilize codes, fobs, or a mobile app?
Would you like to program the intercom directory and access codes remotely or at the door unit?
Do you have existing wiring ? If you have indoor units installed in the apartments, very often the wiring can be utilized, even if the units themselves no longer work.
Do you have internet on-site?
We work with a range of established manufactures to provide the best intercom solution for your property. This includes video intercom systems, audio-only intercom systems, single residence, multi-tenant, network (IP) systems, cellular-based intercoms, and traditional POTS callboxes.
Options include hardwired indoor monitors, app calling, built-in fob or pin code entry, remote programming, access logs, and more.
We have a lot of experience upgrading older 2-wire audio intercom systems to video intercom systems. During the site survey, we will examine your building wiring and recommend compatible brands.
The cost of intercom system installation depends on the type of system (audio, video, cellular, or IP-based), the number of units, wiring requirements, and building size. Single unit intercom installations typically cost less than multi-unit apartment or commercial building systems. For an accurate quote, a professional site assessment is recommended so that we can examine your building infrastructure and discuss your goals.
We install commercial-grade systems, which will always be hard-wired to power, and if applicable, to your network or indoor units.
Wired intercom systems offer maximum reliability and are ideal for new construction, renovations, and buildings with existing wiring in place.
Wireless intercom systems can include truly "wireless" Wi-Fi based systems, which we do not install, as they are not reliable enough to be considered commercial-grade. For properties that do not have existing functioning wiring, and where running new wiring is not feasible or cost effective, we will recommend cellular-based on IP-based systems. These systems are still hard-wired to power and network.
The best option for your property depends on infrastructure and budget.
Modern video intercom systems can connect to mobile apps, allowing you to see visitors, communicate remotely, and unlock doors from anywhere. Smartphone-enabled intercom systems are ideal for residential homes, multi-tenant apartment buildings, offices, and gated communities.
Installation time varies based on system complexity and building size. A single-family home intercom installation may take a few hours, while multi-unit residential or commercial intercom systems may require one to several days.
